Perched on a sun-drenched Port Hills slope, this garden is a seamless extension of a contemporary family home. Botanic Landscape Architects arranged sheltered courtyards, a terraced deck and a swimming pool, each placed to enhance comfort and the views over Christchurch.
A restrained palette of concrete, steel, timber and Port Hills basalt grounds the design, while retaining walls carve level spaces from the slope, including a flat lawn made from house-excavation spoil. The planting is a naturalistic evergreen meadow of Lomandra, bold foliage and seasonal colour, punctuated by two kinetic wind sculptures and a bubbling water feature.
