Gold, Softscape (over $100,000), Landscapes of Distinction Awards 2025. Manukau, Auckland. By Natural Habitats.
The client wanted a peaceful, dignified landscape that reflected the spiritual significance of the temple and supported both quiet contemplation and larger gatherings. On a demanding two-year, $4.2 million project, Natural Habitats planted more than 90,000 plants and 204 large trees, including specimens up to 4,000 litres craned into three-metre tree pits.
Durable, low-maintenance, climate-suited planting was procured well ahead to secure quality stock, with filter socks protecting the stormwater system from run-off. Careful multi-trade coordination, respect for the site’s cultural expectations and a commitment to quality delivered a landscape that enhances the temple as a place of reverence and community.
