Monte Christo, established in 1864 as Central Otago’s first vineyard, was restored to blend heritage with modern hospitality. Weka Landscaping used locally sourced schist in pathways and low walls to keep the site authentic, with Corten steel edging framing garden beds and hardy Central Otago perennials chosen for the extreme climate.
A standout was the transplanting of mature olive trees, stored in fertiliser bags and craned into place, which instantly gave the landscape structure and history. Shaded outdoor spaces, a vegetable garden supplying the on-site food truck and a natural playground round out a guest experience where past and present meet, delivered on time through a complex, multi-trade build.
