Set in the hills of Havelock North, Kopanga is a historic homestead whose grounds were rebuilt over five years. South Pacific Landscapes united formal garden structure with contemporary outdoor living: expansive lawns, sculptural plantings, Corten steel water features and a wide stone staircase into the heart of the garden.
Cobblestones wrap the house, each individually pointed; the century-old stone wall was restored; French limestone, quantity-surveyed and shipped six months ahead, runs through the outdoor living areas. The build carried on through COVID-19 and Cyclone Gabrielle. The judges called it a rare example of scale not diminishing detail.
